Born August 10, 1918 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Charlie Henry and Mary Susan Sigmon Pope. He was the former owner/operator of Catawba Dry Cleaners and the Young Men's Shop in Newton.
He was a veteran of the US Army, serving during World War II and was a member of Catawba United Methodist Church. He was retired from Catawba Volunteer Fire Department, Catawba Lions Club, and was a member of American Legion Post #48 in Hickory. He received the Citizenship Award from the Woodmen of the World.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Nixon, Lucille Yount, Helen Caldwell, and Doris Allen and brothers Tate Pope, Roy Pope and Harrel Pope.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 10, 2006 at Catawba United Methodist Church. Rev. H. Cowles Bristol, III and Rev. Gervase Hitch will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #16.
Pallbearers will be Michael Korn, John Pope, Phillip Spencer, Jeff Hendren, Dale Hunsucker and Mike Abernathy.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Drum Funeral Home in Conover and at other times at the residence 105 3rd Avenue SW, Catawba
