CATAWBA - Doris Leota Pope Allen, 86, of N.C. 10 East, Catawba, died Sunday, May 21, 2006, at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Born March 14, 1920, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Charles Henry and Mary Susan Sigmon Pope. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and a lifelong member of Center United Methodist Church in Catawba. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.Y. Allen; three sisters, Helen Caldwell, Lucille Yount and Mary Nixon; and three brothers, Roy Pope, Harrel Pope and Tate Pope. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Grady and Linda Allen of Cornelius; a grandson, Stephen Hunter of Charlotte; a sister, Cleo Abernethy of Newton; and three brothers, Fred Pope of Catawba and Charles Pope Jr. and Bryce Pope of Maiden. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at Center United Methodist Church. The Rev. Paula B. Northrup will officiate. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:15 p.m. Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Center United Methodist Church, 4945 Sherrills Ford Road, Catawba, N.C. 28609.
