Ruby Weeks Brown, 80, died Saturday, June 17,2017, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. She was under the care of Aspen Hospice.
She was born on June 1, 1937, in Idaho Falls, to Abram and Edna Priscilla Weeks. Ruby was the youngest of thirteen children.
She was raised on the family farm in Swan Valley until her mother's health took them to Fontana, California, in 1943.
Her family returned to Ririe seven years later where she graduated from Ririe High School.
She met her husband, Larry Lynn Brown in Ririe and they married March 31, 1954, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Their first son was born in Idaho Falls, while they were farming and Larry was attending Ricks College. The family moved to Logan, Utah, where a daughter was born while Larry finished his schooling at Utah State University. The family again moved to Salt Lake City where another daughter joined the family.
A new job took them to Phoenix, Arizona, where their last son was born.
After many years there, the family moved back to the Idaho Falls area. In 1977, Ruby and Larry sponsored Wanthanee, a young woman their son had baptized on his LDS mission in Thailand, who came to live with the family.
Idaho Falls was their home until Larry passed away in 2006. She was widowed for 11 years, serving a mission in the Illinois Nauvoo Mission. Her last 3 years were spent in Iona, near her daughters.
Ruby loved her family and followed closely the lives of her children and grandchildren.
She enjoyed being with people, especially her extended family and friends.
Her many siblings were her best friends and she and Larry spent many happy hours with them.
She loved raising flowers, sewing, playing the guitar and piano, serving in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, writing histories, doing Temple work. The last few years she became an avid Family Search Indexer.
She had a wonderful smile that lit up wherever she was and she tried to help everyone she met.
Ruby is survived by her son: Lonnie (Carol) Brown, of Soda Springs, Idaho; daughters: Carol (Bruce) Satterfield and Nancy (Mike) Bennett, both of Iona, Idaho; her son: Lane (Stacy) Brown, of American Fork, Utah; her daughter: Wanthanee (Robert)Schmitz, of Waukesha, Wisconsin; 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry L. Brown; a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Satterfield; her parents, Abram and Edna Weeks, and all twelve older siblings: Edna, Howard, Ethel, Velma, Elvin, Fay, Dorothy, Gene, Rachel, Ray, Gerald and Larry.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, June 24, 2017, at the LDS Church, 5169 Denning Ave., Iona, Idaho.
The family will receive friends on from 6-8 p.m., Friday, June 23, 2017, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls, and one hour prior to the services at the church.
