CUNNINGHAM, William Earl -- Passed away peacefully on September 13, 2003 at Kaiser Hospital in Santa Clara at the age of 86.

Born and raised in Red Bluff, California.

Army Air Corps pilot in World War II.

Degrees include an A.B. Degree with an Art Major from San Jose State, Masters in Creative Art and Administration from Stanford University.

Taught Fine Arts at Los Gatos High School for 15 years. Later became Adult Education Director and Summer School Principal for the Los Gatos-Saratoga School District for the next 15 years until his retirement in 1977.

After his retirement Bill and his wife Beth traveled extensively for the first 9 month, then took shorter trips until just the past few years. Traveling and painting on location were part of Bill's passion.

Bill was the co-founder of the Los Gatos Art Association in 1948. He was also a past member of the Saratoga Contemporary Artists, San Jose Museum of Art and Gallery Saratoga. Art was a way of life for Bill, working in many styles and materials, his work has won numerous awards at juried shows and art competitions. He designed and built the family home 49 years ago in Monte Sereno. His artistic touches have been incorporated into the furnishings and the garden areas that surround the home.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Beth Cunningham of Monte Sereno; son and daughter-in-law Greg and Alexandra Cunningham of Reno, Nevada; daughter and son-in-law Lorie and Dave Hoefler of Aptos; two grandsons Stephen Hoefler (15) and Eric Hoefler (13) of Aptos.
