Son of William Arthur East and Iris Rose Cordell. In April of 1955, Billy and two friends were in a accident when their automobile flipped. The other two boys made it out of the car and ran for help. Billy did not escape before the car caught fire.

Billy was a vocalist and had recently won the local 4H Talent Contest in Monroe. He was scheduled to appear on the Ted Mack "The Original Amateur Hour" in New York City.
