Ed was the son of Minnie Clayton and was married to Cora Alice Hensley in Roane County, TN in 1900. They were parents of four sons, Omar Frank, Rick, George, and Benjamin Jackson.
Ed's mother, Minnie, married Henry E. L. Marney and their children were Cleveland, Sarah Ida, Jack Elbert, and J. G. M. The last child only survived two months, and Minnie died about a month later.
