John, son of Eldad Ingalls (1693-1728) and Hannah Watts (1698-1756), was just 5 yrs old when his father died in Chester, NH. His mother died when he was 15. He married Sarah Haseltine (1726-1756) in Haverhill, MA on 23 Dec 1748. She was the daughter of Joseph and Judith (Eaton) Haseltine. They had children Mary, John, Joseph, Hannah and Sarah. John married again to Elizabeth Copp (1738-1819) in Hampstead, NH on 18 Nov 1756. She was the daughter of Captain Moses Copp and Mehitable Emerson - Mehitable's grandmother was Hannah (Emerson) Dustin, famous for her revenge and escape from indians after they kidnapped her and killed her baby. They had children Elizabeth, Mehitable and Moses. Per "North America, Family Histories, 1500-2000", by Ancestry.com: John was "one of the proprietors of Hampstead and settled at Plaistow; moved to Atkinson in 1767..." They had sons Samuel, Abiah, Caleb and Joshua. John was voted in as selectman and leather-sealer at the first town meeting in Atkinson, NH in 1769. They had children Jesse, Judith, Abigail and Nathaniel. The family moved to Canterbury in about 1775. Children Daniel, James, David and a second James were born. They were farmers. A visit to 80 Asby Road in Canterbury will yield the farm's location as evidenced by stone walls that were foundations for several buildings.
