Dolly was born in Sparks, Nev., Aug. 28, 1925, to Neil Shaber and Harriet Woodruff. She was the middle of three daughters. Her family soon moved to Los Angeles where she attended grade school, middle school and high school and graduated from UCLA with a BA in Fine Arts in 1946.
She met and married Norman Freed in Los Angeles Feb. 8, 1947 and soon moved to Redwood City and then to Oregon in 1956. She was a talented artist, seamstress, cook and passed those skills to her children. She was a great support for Norm in his leadership roles for the Boy Scouts of America and the Lions Club. She was an active member of the Methodist Church and loved painting, cooking, reading, games, traveling, tennis, camping and hunting.
She worked for Tektronix as a technical illustrator in the 1970's and after Norm retired they enjoyed joining events with the Pacific Northwest Telephone Pioneers and taking their motor home to Yuma, Ariz., to play tennis all winter.
Dolly was greeted in heaven by her parents and two sisters. She is survived by her husband, Norman Freed; sons, Dennis Freed (Melinda); Randall Freed (Marsha); daughter, Lynn Hilbers (Mike); six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren who will all miss her dearly.
