Robert Stump was born in Nebraska, a son of Washington Clement Stump and Abigail Martin Melvin. He had siblings Susie Edith 1889–1889, Lulu Melvin 1890–1984, Dr. Francis Manley, Juneau Dewey 1897–1981, Laurence Murphy, Jessee Patrick, Alfred Octavius 1904–1991 and Donald Noventius 1906–1973.
He married Mable Raney Chapman in 1922 and they had two children, Robert M Stump Jr. and Joyce Abbie Johnson Nov 28 1926 CA-1993.
Robert was a physician for over 50 years, including in Sun City. He was Chief of Staff at the Youngtown Community Hospital that opened in 1965.
He was a charter member of the Sun City Rotary Club.
Survivors included his wife, Lucile; one daughter; a son; two brothers; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
