M. Zelma (Banzhof) Tome, 98, formerly of Millersville, passed away Friday, June 23, 2017 at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim, where she had been a resident for six years.

Born December 25, 1918 in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late D. Leroy and Bertha (Schwan) Banzhof.

Zelma enjoyed bingo, watching TV, playing solitaire and going on bus trips to the casinos in Atlantic City. When she was younger, she enjoyed camping and going to the beach. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her greatest joy over the last two years was attending her great-grandson's wedding which was held at Pleasant View. Her great-grandson wanted the wedding at Pleasant View so he could be sure she could attend. Everybody all over the nursing home heard about that wedding as she was so excited. She was proud of being born on Christmas Day and liked to tell stories of how all her siblings were born on holidays. She worked at K-D Tools, Oregon Dairy and Weis Markets. In 1956, she was employed by the Manheim Township Police as their first police school crossing guard, an accomplishment she was very proud of and continued to tell stories about until a few weeks before her death. In the 1950's and 1960's she was a member of the Manheim Township Auxiliary Police and the Southern Manheim Township Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by her daughter, Harriet (Ronald) Hammons, Lancaster, by her son, Henry (Lynn) Tome, Saxonburg and by her daughter-in-law, Martha Tome, Floyd, VA. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one sister, P. Lorraine Knause, Lititz. She was also preceded in death by her son, Robert D. Tome, a brother and two sisters. She was formerly married to the late Donald H. Tome.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral Service to be held at the Pleasant View Retirement Community-Hoffer Auditorium, 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim, PA 17545 on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 1PM (Viewing 12Noon-1PM). Interment will be held in the Riverview Burial Park, Lancaster, PA.

The family would like to thank the staff of Pleasant View Retirement Community for the excellent care she received over the last six years. Especially their kindness to her and the family over these last difficult weeks.
