Richard W. Johnson, 92, formerly of Cary, Illinois, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2017 at Valley Hi in Woodstock, Illinois. Richard was born on August 31, 1924 to the late John MC and Ada Johnson. He was a veteran of the United States Merchant Marines during World War II. He was a devoted Christian, family man, ultimate story teller, and jokester. He was a retired accountant for Union Oil. Richard was an avid reader, and enjoyed building model ships and cars, painting around his house, waxing and detailing his cars, and running the Cary Food Pantry for many years. He and his wife Betty shared their home with many foster children over the years. Richard was an active member of The Evangelical Free Church of Crystal Lake, Illinois. He is survived by his daughters, Becky Blackmore of Crystal Lake, Illinois, Shela (Jeff) Norton of Bemidji, Minnesota, and Vicki (Steven) Watson of Crystal River, Florida, his sister Evelyn of Minnesota, six Grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Betty Jo and a son-in-law William Blackmore. A memorial service is being planned at a future date. Details will be announced.
