Elizabeth Browning Davis "Lib", 90, of Greenwood, SC widow of Marion Hamilton Davis, Sr., rose to her eternal home of glory on June 22, 2017 from Brookdale Greenville Memory Care.

She was born August 3, 1926 in Greenville, SC to the late Paul Browning and Ethel Smith Browning.

A 1943 graduate of Greenville High School, she received her BA degree in History from Converse College in 1947 and her MA degree in Physical Education from the University of North Carolina in 1949. In 1950 she moved to Greenwood, SC and was employed at the Greenwood YMCA as the first Director of Girls' & Women's Activities.

In Greenwood, Lib met and was happily married to the love of her life, Marion Davis Sr. for 45 years until his passing in 1996. Lib and Marion were dedicated members of the First Greenwood Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. Lib served as the church Historian, was an active member of the Monday Morning Circle and sang in the church choir for 60+ years.

Other places of dedication to the community involved volunteering for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and Reach to Recovery programs for much of her adult life, 1951 Chairman of the Women's Division of the Community Chest Drive, Meals on Wheels Volunteer, Greenwood Council of Church Women representing the First Greenwood Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Holly Garden Club, Cub Scout Den Mother and President of the Ladies Golf Association of the Greenwood Country Club.

Lib was also an avid sports fan, golfer and tennis player. In high school she lettered in baseball and Red Cross lifesaving. In college she lettered in tennis and swimming. She was the Rock Hill City Tennis Champion in 1950, Ladies Golf Association Club Champion at the Greenwood Country Club 4 times and runner up 5 times. She also had 4 Hole-In-Ones.

Most of all, Lib was a loving, kind and caring lady who was devoted to her family and friends. She had a great sense of humor, was always a lot of fun and loved to laugh.

She is survived by 4 beloved children: Marion Hamilton Davis, Jr.(Barbara), Paul Browning Davis (Emilia), George Hamilton Davis, Elizabeth Browning Davis Abel "Brownie" (Tim), 11 beloved grandchildren; Marion Hamilton Davis III "Ty", Morgan Davis, Jenna Dunn (Mike), Emmie Davis Hansen, Julianne Loven (Dezi), Margaret Nettles (Justin), Michael Neeley (Amber), Lindsay Neeley, Eric Abel, Austin Abel (Alyssa) and Seth Abel; 4 great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband Marion and her parents, Lib was predeceased by two brothers, Paul Browning, Jr., William D. Browning, Sr., a sister-in-law, Dorothy D. Browning and a daughter-in-law, Rebecca Lee

Pallbearers will be active elders of the church and the honorary escort will be active and inactive deacons of the church and inactive elders.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Greenwood Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, PO Box 49054, Greenwood, SC 29649 or the American Cancer Society.
