Edward James Tully, 80, of Fredericksburg, VA, passed away on June 10, 2017, at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in Richmond, VA.
Ed was born on October 12th, 1936, in Bloomington, IL, to the late William P. and Catherine "Lucille" Tully. After graduating from Illinois State University with a Master's Degree in Education, Ed worked as Principal of the Cornell and Mackinaw grade schools until his appointment as a Special Agent of the FBI in 1962.
He served as a Special Agent in Richmond, VA, Tampa and Cocoa, FL, until he was transferred to the FBI Academy, Quantico, VA, in 1972.

At the FBI Academy, Ed served as the Chief of the Education Unit, Administrator of the National Executive Institute, and Assistant Section Chief of the FBI's Academic Unit. He retired from the FBI in 1993 after 31 years of service.
Following his retirement, Ed continued his involvement in the law enforcement community serving as Executive Director of the Major Cities Chiefs and Administrator of the National Executive Institute. In 2007, Ed was awarded the Penrith Award, law enforcement's most prestigious award for excellence in law
enforcement administration.

Ed is preceded in death by his wife of 26 years, Billie Jean, who passed away in 1990, and by his second wife, Betty Ann Gregory, who passed away in 2003.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Michelle Tully, and their children, Jessica, Natalie and Will. And by his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Rich McKee, and their children, Brady and Billie Jean. And by his daughter and son-in-law Molly and Paul Wenzler and their children, Cate and Anna.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 22, 6pm to 8pm, at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service on 1621 Jefferson Davis Highway in Fredericksburg, VA. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 23, at 11am, at Fredericksburg Baptist Church on 1019 Princess Anne Street. All are welcome to join the family for a reception at the church immediately following the service. Ed will be interred next to his wife Billie Jean during a private ceremony at Oak Hill cemetery.
