"Miss Docie" as we fondly called her,was born on December 30,1889. Her parents were: Martha Ellen White and John Franklin. Her grandparents were: Kesiah Toole and Elijah Franklin. After Elijah died, Kesiah married John Shiver, who became "Miss Docia's" step-grandfather. He died in the Civil War.
She was married to Code Hartzog, and together they had 3 children: Mary Hartzog Riggins,Mavis Hartzog Touchstone, and Vessie Hartzog.
After her husband passed away,"Miss Docie" lived with her son in Bascom,Florida. She would come up and spend time with her two daughters in Rome,Georgia.
I have fond memories of her as I was growing up,as she was a dear family friend of ours. She held me when I was six months old, right after my parents brought me home from my adoption. My parents told me how "Miss Docie" would sit down on the floor with me and played with me when I was a little child. I saw her a lot as I grew older. She and my Dad would sit and tell stories of true happenings of when they were younger, back in Florida.
"Miss Docie" is survived by her daughters. Her son,Vessie, preceded her in death in 1977. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great granchildren.
I really miss "Miss Docie",and look forward to seeing her again someday.
