John B. Rothrock's grave marker is very difficult to read. John married Margaret Wassum (1810-1889) in Apr 1828 in presumably Pennsylvania. It is not known who John was the son of. Some records suggest he was the son of John Rothrock (c1775-1830), although this is unlikely as John had a son John Rothrock (1803-1885).

John and Margaret were the parents of ten known children, namely:

1. William Rothrock (1828-1829)
2. Henrietta Rothrock (1830-p1870)
3. John B. Rothrock (1832-1906)
4. Mary Rothrock Hartz (1835-1913)
5. Charles Penrose Rothrock (1838-1862)
6. Annetta Rothrock Radcliffe (1842-1904)
7. Ovid Rothrock (1845-p1900)
8. James Rothrock (1848-young)
9. Ellen J. Rothrock (1851-p1870)
10. Violet Rothrock (1856-p1880)

Was there a son Benjamin between Ellen and Violet? In 1850 John Rothrock (age 41, born Pennsylvania, a powdermaker (gunpowder?)) was living at Bankstown, Carbon County, Pennsylvania with wife Margaret (age 41), Henrietta (age 24), John (age 18), Mary (age 16? 14?), Charles (age 11), Ovid (age 10) and Annettia (age 7). In 1860 the family (parents, Henrietta (age 30, listed as a domestic), Charles (age 22), Ovid (listed as 15 years old?), Ellen (age 9) and Wilota (Violet?) (age 6) were living at Banks Township, Carbon County, Pennsylvania with father John still listed as a powdermaker. In 1870 John Rothrock, age 60, powder maker) was living at Banks Township, Carbon County, Pennsylvania with wife Margaret (age 60), Henrietta (age 37), Ellen (age 19), Violet (age 17) and Ovid (age 23). In 1880 John Rothrock (age 70, born PA) was living at Carbon County, Pennsylvania with wife Margaret (age 70), son Ovid (age 35), daughter Violet (age 25) and grandson Claude (age 1). Some records show John and Margaret with a daughter Rebecca.

Buried at Union Cemetery in Weatherly, Carbon County, Pennsylvania are: Hattie Rothrock (05 May 1882 - 03 Jun 1883) and Ella B. Rothrock (03 Jun 1885 - 04 Aug 1888). How do they fit into the family?

The baptism and birth records of Rev. Hilffrich of Lehigh County, Pennsylvania lists the following records: Johann Rothrock - father; Margretha Rothrock - Mother; Wilhelm Rothrock, baptized 02 Nov 1828 at Heidelberg, Henrietta Rothrock baptized 11 Jul 1830 at Heidelberg; Wilhelm Rothrock born 07 Oct 1828 and Henrietta Rothrock born 24 Jun 1830. I assume that this is the family that later moved to Carbon County, Pennsylvania.
