James Arthur Spangler, a member of the Fairfield borough council and a former justice of the peace in Hamiltonban township for 20 years, died at his home in Fairfield on Wednesday evening at 7:45 from a stroke. He would have been 71 years old on October 17.
Mr. Spangler had been ill since Sunday evening when he was stricken at his home while talking to
David Sanders, of Hamiltonban township. The deceased had been in his usual health earlier on Sunday and had visited his son, Russell, Gettysburg RD. The attack on Sunday occurred at 6:00 p.m.
Born near Littlestown, the son of the late John and Mary Mehring Spangler, the deceased had lived in and around Fairfield during the last 52 years. He was a farmer and a carpenter. He was a member of the Fairfield fire company.
Surviving are his wife, the former Minnie Wortz; six children, Mrs. Carrie Musselman, Fairfield;
Mrs. Clarence Weikert, Gettysburg RD; Russell, Gettysburg; Mrs. P.C. Musselman, Fairfield; Ralph, York; and Mrs. Edgar Harbaugh, Sabillasville, Maryland; 25 grandchildren and two brothers, Howard, Littlesztown, and Milton, Delmar, Maryland.
Funeral services were held this morning at 10:00 from the Allison funeral home, Fairfield, with the
Rev. Nevin Frantz, pastor of St. John's Evangelical and Reformed church, officiating. Mr. Spangler was a member of the church. Interment was made in Fairfield Union cemetery.
