Oakley “Oak” W. Sickels, 84, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, June 30, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids.

A memorial gathering will be held from 5:00-8:00 pm Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at the Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce; son, David (Angie) Sickels of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Jodi (Larrell) De Jong of New Prague, MN; 10 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Leah, and a great grandson.

Oakley Wayne Sickels was born October 31, 1932 in Waukon Junction, Iowa the son of Andrew and Bessie (Thorpe) Sickels.

Oakley served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

On August 11, 1956, he married Joyce Martin at Nashua, Iowa.

He worked as a machinist for 27 years at Quaker Oats.
