Barbara J. Chapman, 96, of Rockford, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2017. She was born on January 31, 1921, in Rockford, the daughter of Charles and Helen (Yone) Patterson.

Barbara graduated from Rockford Central High School in 1939, and married William D. Chapman on April 18, 1942. He predeceased her in March 1991.

Barbara worked as a secretary and bookkeeper while raising a large family. She was active as a Daughter of the Nile, and enjoyed cooking, reading, and spending time with her family. She volunteered at the Salvation Army kitchen for many years.

Barbara was very proud of her independence, and enjoyed celebrating her family's achievements.

She is survived by: her sons, Thomas (Donna) Chapman, Steven (Kathy) Chapman, and William (Elizabeth) Chapman; daughters, Susan Chapman (Stephen Whitelaw) and Darlene Chapman; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Michael, Ryan, Brooke, Ross, Jenna, and Laura; and eight great-grandchildren. She was blessed with many true friends.

Predeceased by: parents; husband; and brother, Richard Patterson.

Memorial services on Friday, July 7, 2017, in Olson Funeral Home. Private burial in Arlington Memorial Park.
