LAWRENCE -- Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence for Warden L. Noe, 96, Lawrence, who died Feb. 14, 2001, at a Lawrence retirement center.

He was born May 22, 1904, near Willis in Brown County, to Lee and Harriet Caroline Noe, and attended schools in Willis and Horton. He received an AB degree from The University of Kansas in 1928. He taught at the high school in Elk Falls for two terms. He earned a law degree at The University of Kansas in 1930.

He moved to Holton, where he served two terms as Jackson County attorney. He also was the attorney for the Holton Board of Education. He later was an attorney for the state of Kansas and practiced before the U.S. Supreme Court. He moved to Lawrence in 1996.

He was a member of the Area Agency on Aging, Kanza Mental Health and Guidance Agency, and the first Silver-haired Legislature. He had served as a legal aid services consultant for the aged in Jackson County.

He married Ruth Alice Durr on Aug. 20, 1936. She died Dec. 29, 1996.

Survivors include daughters, Sara Noe Harris, Montgomery Village, Md., and Carolyn Sue Noe and Beth Berg, both in Lawrence; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Noe was cremated.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Employee Christmas Fund at the Lawrence Presbyterian Manor, to the Holton High School Alumni Scholarship Fund or to The University of Kansas School of Law in Lawrence.
