The Doutys had lived during the height and declines of the Lock haven curb market, and still faithfully attended the present market on the city parking lot between East Church and East Bald Eagle Streets.
When they first came to market, they lived in Eastville, beyond Loganton, and rode to town in a spring wagon, drawn by a team of horses.
The busy market attracted farmers from all parts of the country, who each Wednesday and Saturday mornings, backed their wagons, and later their automobiles to the curb on East Church Street. The line of vendors stretched blocks eastward from Bellefonte Avenue.
The Doutys were proud that they “always sold their own produce”, the product of their own farms, in their trips to market.
They moved from the Eastville farm to Lamar (1917-1923), then returned to Sugar Valley to farm for 40 years at their location between Loganton and Booneville.
Mrs. Douty was the former Mary E. Boone, daughter of Howard and Amelia Miller Boone, and was born at Eastville, March 23, 1891.
Her Husband, a daughter, Mrs. Beula Esterline, Loganton RD, and a brother, Floyd Boone, of Tylersville survived.
Another brother, the Reverend John C. Boone, pastor of the Eastville Church of the Brethren, died on October 24, 1962.
Services were held at the Ramm Funeral Home, Loganton, with the Reverend Paul L. Wolgemuth officiating.
Interment was in the Lutheran and Reformed Cemetery, Rebersburg.
