Colonel Asa Phillip Stanford was born in Albany and one of the five Stanford boys.
He was educated in the schools of Schenectady and was one of the first settlers of Sacramento Cal. One of his brothers was the late Senator Leland Stanford of California.

Husband to Mabel Whitney who died 3-20-1879.
Father to (3) children by his first wife.
Philip W. Stanford who died in 1898.
Jerome B. Stanford and Mary E. Stanford who died in 1899.

The widow is Mrs. Annie F. Cunningham Stanford, and was married to the colonel about eight years ago. She was the widow of John Cunningham, who thirty years ago was town clerk of New Haven, and for years was captain of the Sarsfield guard here. Mrs. Stanford was also sister of John M. Hanifin, who at the time of his death was editor of the Morning News of this city.
