Our community lost a great man, grampy, father, and husband on July 4, 2017.

Brent was born in Ogden, Utah on February 9, 1949, to Lynn and Donna Richardson. He was inquisitive at a young age, often visiting thrift stores to pick up old electronics to take apart and reassemble. His creative nature and love of how things work would be a common theme throughout his life.

After graduation from Ogden High School, Brent enlisted as a member of the 19th Special Forces Group, Airborne. He completed training as a Green Beret and achieved the rank of 2nd Lieutenant.

A true entrepreneur, Brent started his first business during high school, storing boats and RV’s at his Riverside Sportsman Storage. While earning his B.S. in Mathematics at Weber State, he bought the Hi-Fi Shop to which he would add the Mobile Install Center, a place his children would learn their dad was the coolest as they jammed out to the Beverly Hills Cop theme song in a black Fiero.

Ever interested in technology, he and his lifelong love and business partner, Diane (whom he married on February 19, 1975 in the Ogden Temple), started Data Lines in 1984 which would later become Connecting Point. In 1997, he began consulting and became interested in home automation, creating yet another successful business.

Brent spent time serving and giving back to his community. A strong believer in education, he served on numerous boards including: School of Technology and School of Business at WSU, College of Applied Technology for 13 years and the Board of Education for Weber County Schools for 19 years, with nine of those years as president. Brent was a member of the Rotary Club of Ogden for over 20 years.

A man of unwavering faith, Brent accepted callings in the LDS Church, serving in whatever capacity was asked of him, especially enjoying serving with Diane as an ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple.

Brent’s “anything you can do” attitude knew no limits. After making a banjo, he learned on his own how to “break it down.” An excellent guitarist, he was primarily self-taught on the mandolin, Dobro, piano, and upright base.

He built his family home, obtained a CDL to drive a dump truck, welded a wake board tower for his boat, and made a “Richardson height” pool table for his home, one of his many woodworking masterpieces.

His passion in later life took him back to his roots as a child on his family farm, Paramount Dairy. He pristinely restored a 1955 Oliver tractor and a 1949 Chevy truck. His playground was his Jerome farm where he restored an 80-year-old barn, complete with silo and century-old windmill.

Brent bore his testimony of God’s Plan of Salvation through his example and knew where he was headed after he was released from the pain of his struggle with pancreatic cancer. He looked forward to eternity with his supportive companion and loving wife, Diane. Words cannot express the heartache of his loss, but his faith sustains his family at this time.

He is survived by his wife; children and grandchildren: Mike and Anna (Kaleb, Barret, Mariah) Richardson, Suzy and Rhett (Easton, Gage, Stockton) Millard, Sarah and Don (Alexander, Olivia, Contessa) Wichern, Megan and Brian (Waylyn, Walter, TBA) Williams; siblings: Lynn (Ron) Dusek, Judy (Terry) Kneebone, Uwe Schmidt, German brother; mother-in-law: Joanne Ahlmer; in-law siblings: Teresa Gillins, Steve (Tami) Ahlmer, Spencer (Jill) Judd.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Dean Ahlmer; sister-in-law, Marsha Judd; and brother-in-law, Tom Gillins.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the LDS Church, 6350 Combe Rd., Ogden. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
