ALT, WILLIAM "BILL" E., JR., 96, of Louisville, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2007 in Huntsville, AL. Born in Louisville, and a lifelong resident, he was a descendent of two generations of prominent Louisville Germans who were building contractors; building area churches, schools, and homes. He graduated from du Pont Manual Training High School in 1929 and majored in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Louisville Speed School. He worked for the old American Radiator and Standard Sanitary Company designing plumbing, retiring after 35 years as a Lab Supervisor. Mr. Alt then decided to try his hand at designing highways and worked another five years for the Kentucky Highway Department. He was a former Deacon at the Beechmont Presbyterian Church and later became a member of the Strathmore Presbyterian Church. Mr. Alt was a "Life Member" of the Masonic Grand Lodge of Kentucky (Plumb Lodge No. 862) and a Kentucky Colonel. Mr. Alt was preceded in death by his parents, William E. Alt, Sr. and Elsie Beckman, as well as his wife of 50 years, Anna Deane Fallon of Cloverport, KY. He is survived by his second wife, Norma Estelle Lenz of Louisville; his daughter, Donna Parker and son-in-law, Donald E. Parker; his grandchildren, Christi Parker and Pamela Johnson and her husband, Joel B. Johnson and great-grandchildren, Joel "Parker" Johnson and William "Presley" Johnson, all of Huntsville, AL; nephews, Larry Alt and wife, Carolyn of Marathon Key, FL, Ronald Alt and wife Donna of Stockton, CA, Larry Conrad and wife Carol of Louisville, Mike Conrad and wife, Jeanne of Shepherdsville; niece, Laura Leigh Alt Gipe and husband, Murray of Louisville; and step-daughter, Martha Maloney and her husband, John of Louisville. His funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. with burial to follow in Cave Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Donald Parker, Joel Johnson, Larry Conrad, Michael Conrad, Kenneth Stoess, and Patrick Payne. Visitation will be from noon-2 p.m. on Thursday at Highlands.
