Lewis B. (Bud) Hardgrave, was the fourth of nine children born to James Hardgrave and his wife, Louisa McKee. He was born in Horsehead Township, in Johnson County, Arkansas and spent his youth there. In the late 1870's he and his wife, Emma, moved to Texas, near present day Dallas. There they raised several children, but also lost 5 children to various diseases. Around 1911, they moved to Dalhart, Texas, where Lewis lived out his remaining days. He died of colon cancer there in 1917, and is buried in the Dalhart City Cemetery.
