Louisa McKee was born to James McKee and Lydia Russell, and was one of several children. Her father died fairly young, and left a widow and many children. She married James Hardgrave, in St. Louis, in 1839, and shortly after, they moved to Arkansas, where she raised her family. She died in 1876, but is buried in an unmarked grave, likely in the Hardgrave Cemetery, in Johnson County, Arkansas.
