Donohue, Thelma B. ITHACA Thelma Donohue, 98, passed away peacefully in Ithaca on March 31, 2015. She is predeceased by her husband, Robert. She is survived by her daughters, Lyn Donohue of 1872 Slaterville Road, Ithaca, NY 14850 and Judy Cohen of 34 Troy Road, East Greenbush, NY 12061. She is also survived by grandson Jesse Cohen and his fiancee Julie Nastars, and is predeceased by her granddaughter, Ria Cohen in 2012. Her great-grandchildren are Isabella, Talia, Nakai and Sam. Everyone who knew Thelma knows what an extraordinary woman she was. She was very active in her First Methodist Church for years, doing many things including climbing all the Adirondack peaks with the youth group, church suppers and rummage sales. She was a distinguished teacher with the East Greenbush Central School District and was awarded Teacher of the Year in 1978. She volunteered at the East Greenbush Community Library for over 20 years, thereby becoming the volunteer with the most longevity ever. The East Greenbush Town Board honored her community service by declaring Thelma Donohue Day and threw her a parade. She had profound empathy for all people and a deep compassion for all creatures great and small. Thelma was beloved by family and friends and will be sorely missed. There will be no local services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the East Greenbush Community Library, 10 Community Way, East Greenbush, NY 12061.
