A freeman by the name of William Denmark is found in 1729 in Bath Town, North Carolina witnessing a land sale. We do not know his year of birth, no record has been found. William must have been 21 or he could not have legally witnessed the sale of property under the laws of the Province of North Carolina, therefore we have given him the estimated birth date of 1706. He was an educated man as he could write his own name, even abbreviated "William" for "Wm". He became a town's blacksmith. When his son William Batchelor was born he was the blacksmith in the town of Woodstock, located in Hyde County, North Carolina (now known as Beaufort County). William died sometime between 1751-1758. His son, William Batchelor Denmark, was declared an orphan in 1758.

William Denmark, was commonly referred to as the blacksmith.

Note: E.O. Parker, genealogist, discoved in 1965 mot of the records from Bathtown, NC were dumped in a landfill.
