James O. Buttram, 82, died on April 4, 2011 at Northside Rehab Center after a lengthy illness. He was employed by Allis Chalmers and also worked with the Sheriff's Department and retired from the state of Alabama ABC Board. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and accompanied Admiral Byrd to Antarctica on Operation High Jump on USS Mount Olympus. He was a member of 12th Street Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harold Buttram; and sisters, Eura V. Cosby and Virginia Gramling. He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, three children, son-in-law, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two sisters, and niece. Funeral: 2:00 p.m. April 8, 2011 at Collier-Butler Funeral Home.
