Donatus Menzel was the third Lord-Mayor of Breslau from 1833-1838. In his youth, he studied the law. From 1806 to 1812, he served as a magistrate in the city. He succeeded to the position of Lord-Mayor following the death of his predecessor, Friederich August Karl von Kospoth, in 1833. During his tenure he oversaw the implementation of laws providing equality to Jewish citizens.

Menzel was a member of the Order of the Red Eagle.
