Archbishop Carmel Henry Carfora was born on August 27, 1878 and died on January 18, 1958. He was raised as a Roman Catholic in his native Naples, Italy. He later left the Roman Catholic Church and became a co-founder and leader of the North American Old Roman Catholic Church (NAORCC). He ministered to Italian American immigrants, first in New York City as a Capuchin Franciscan priest, having entered the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin in 1895. He later separated himself from the Order and the Church over personal disagreements regarding ministry to the Italian immigrants.
