James "Jim" Baxter was born to his parents James & Marjorie in Boise Idaho on September 03, 1921. He died peacefully on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 95 years old.
Jim lived most of his life in Boise, graduating from Boise High School in 1939. Jim then traveled the world serving his country, both in the Army Air Corps during WWII and in the US Air Force during the Korean conflict. He left the military a 1st lieutenant. Jim then had a long career at Albertsons, helping it grow from a local market to a national supermarket chain.
Throughout his life Jim's boundless curiosity and thirst for knowledge shaped his many interests and talents. He was a craftsman whose skills included wood carvings of fish and birds. Nature complied with his creative inspirations; he kept a vegetable garden and grew state fair worthy pumpkins. His rose garden provided welcome on any day, blooming or not. He enjoyed hunting in his younger years and found every moment he could to fish after his retirement. From childhood, Jim was a voracious reader. As technology advanced, he embraced new ways to communicate with his family via his computer, iPad and iPhone, while never giving up the mailed letter.
The most important thing to Jim was his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He adored his wife and best friend Nancy. He was passionate about his country, a great teacher, a master storyteller, a better listener, and a dear friend to many.
Jim is survived by his children Cindy Cochran (Dan), Belinda Gigliotti, Michele Sacco (Mike), Kris Hochstrasser (Kim), Heidi Kilian; Sisters-in-law Jackie Baxter and Dorothea Baxter; grandchildren Crystal Cochran, Daniel Cochran, Travis Gigliotti (Renee), Anna Gigliotti (Rich), Anthony Gigliotti, Mason Sacco, Tara Kilian Quintana (Dave), Justin Kilian (Casey), Kaitlyn Hochstrasser, and Ryan Hochstrasser. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy Hochstrasser, siblings Margaret, Kay, Bob and Ollie, and son Gib Hochstrasser.
On Friday, July 28th, 2017 the family will hold a public service at 1:00 pm at the Alden- Waggoner funeral chapel followed by a military graveside honor service at 3:00 pm at Dry Creek Cemetery.
