INDIANOLA, Neb. – Karen Kay Cummins, 70, passed away on July 4, 2017, at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, Neb. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Karen was born on July 24, 1946, to Carl and Pauline (Burton) Esch at McCook, Neb. After graduating from Indianola High School in 1964, Karen attended McCook Beauty Academy.

On June 1, 1968, Karen married Richard Cummins at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook; this union was blessed with three children; Mark, Kristi, and Jeffrey.

Karen ran Tip Top Beauty Shop and also helped her husband with Cummins Mobile Home Service for several years.

Karen was well known for her love of gardening, baking, and love of flowers. She was also known by many for her homemade pickles and chocolate roll.

Karen was a volunteer for the blood mobile and she was also the coordinator for Grand Generation for several years. She helped her husband as an assistant Boy Scout Master. She also served as an EMT for the Indianola Volunteer Fire and Rescue.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Mark (Tina) Cummins of McCook; Jeffrey (partner, Matthew) Cummins of Omaha, Neb.; daughter, Kristi (Dennis) Baker of Omaha; grandchildren, Nathan and Samantha Cummins of McCook and Dylan and Hailey Baker of Omaha; sister, Joyce Esch of Des Moines, Wash.; brother, Don Esch of Homer, Neb.; her faithful You-Go-I-Go dog, Carly; and numerous nephews, nieces and friends.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Richard; parents, Carl and Pauline Esch; and brother, Rodney Esch.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Memorial services will be Friday, July 7, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Home. A private burial in the Indianola Cemetery will take place for the family at a later date.
