A. Lavinia Gilbert was born July 8, 1834 in Onondaga county, New York. The family moved about five years lager to Wood county, Ohio. She started teaching at the age of 18 and taught for a number of years in Michigan and Ohio. She was married on March 19, 1860 to Moses L. Kidder of Van Buren county, Michigan. In the fall of 1870 they moved to Norfolk. She was survived by 4 children: James W., Mary E. now Mrs. H. B. Swett, Gracia P, Bessie L. Kidder who still remain here; 2 brothers and 2 sisters: Warren, Morris, Miss Bessie Gilbert all at Toquin, Michigan; Mrs. G. O. Leaming at Ed Dorado, Kansas.
