Rita B. Fitzgerald died at 8:52pm on Monday, July 17, 2017 at Bridge Hospice Care Center in Findlay surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 29, 1926 in Akron, Ohio to the late Thomas and Catherine (Zimmerman) Gerraghty. She married William T. Fitzgerald in Akron, Ohio on September 6, 1947, and they were married 64 years until, he died on May 18, 2012. Surviving are four sons: Thomas J. Fitzgerald of Findlay, Dennis M. and Anita L. (Lowe) Fitzgerald of Findlay, John and Sally (Wadsworth)Fitzgerald, and James P. and Denise Backstrom Fitzgerald of Tupelo, MS. Rita has nine grandchildren: Erin Fitzgerald, Michael (Katie) Fitzgerald, Kathleen (Dr. Greg) Woodhead, Maureen (Nick) Arms, Irene Fitzgerald and Jodi (Fitzgerald) Fleming and her husband Neil Fleming, Marc Wadsworth II, Garrett Wadsworth, and Tessa Wadsworth. There are six great grandchildren: Kylie Fleming, Mackenzie Fleming, Laurence Woodhead, John Fitzgerald Woodhead, William B. Fitzgerald, and Charlotte Armes. Rita was a 1944 graduate of St. Vincent and St. Mary's High School in Akron. She was proud of the fact that her father was the first recipient of the Silver Star in Ohio during World War I. She had been a realtor, a Red Cross Volunteer, legacy status as lifetime member of Findlay Country Club, and her son's Cub Scout Den Mother. She traveled extensively and was an avid golfer, having scored three holes in one. She was very supportive of Akron as well as Blanchard Valley Hospital and Birchaven. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 from 3-5 and 6-8pm at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME in Findlay. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at St. Michael the Archangel Church at 750 Bright Road in Findlay. Monsignor Michael Hohenbrink will officiate and interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Bridge Hospice in her memory.
