Born in Connecticut (application for Academy from S.C), Rawlins Lowndes was a Cadet of the Military Academy from Aug. 31, 1816, to July 1, 1820, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army. He served on Recruiting service, 1820; in garrison at Ft. Moultrie, S.C., 1820-21; on Topographical duty, 1821; and as Aide-de-Camp to Bvt. Maj-General Gaines, July 14, 1821, to Dec. 31, 1823.
