My wonderful father-in-law.

Papaw owned a grocery store through most of his life, and at one point he owned two.

I remember my husband coming home after being notified of his death. He sat down and explained how he went to his Dad's safe and asked me if I remembered he and his Dad telling me about how he would give people groceries they need just by signing a ticket, he gave the tickets back when they paid. I said yes I remember - Papaw didn't care if you didn't have the money to pay for your groceries. Vince reached into his pocket and pulled out a 3 inch stack of rubberbanded tickets all dated in the 1940's and early 1950's.

We were down in the country at that time and Vince said lets walk down by the barn - as we got there he knocked the top off the burn barrel. I ask him what he was doing, and he said what Daddy meant to do years ago and the tickets were gone - as his Dad had told me years before the money didn't count but the full stomachs did.
