Alene “Lucille” (Paddock) LaLonde was born on Oct. 3, 1921 in Hoskins, Ore.

She was adopted by James Gersham and Susan Lorilla (Putman) Paddock of Sweet Home when she was 10 days old.

They spent four days to travel from Sweet Home to past Philomath by mule and buggy to collect their new little girl and another four days back to the new home for the new little one.

After a long life, she passed away at the Gateway Memory Living facility in Springfield, on April 21, 2017 at the age of 95 years, 6 months and 18 days.

Her early years were spent in the Sweet Home area. She graduated from Sweet Home High School in 1939 and has enjoyed many reunions with her fellow classmates up until her 77th class reunion.

She lived in many places as her family grew and eventually brought her family to Springfield in 1965 and has resided there since that time.

She was an accomplished seamstress and doll maker.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxilary for more than 60 years. While involved with this organization, she made quilts for the Veteran’s Hospital, was involved in the scholarships for the Boy’s and Girl’s State program, and helped to create many of the Veteran events in the Springfield area.

She was a member and volunteer at the Oregon Genealogy Society for about 30 years. She was a book binder, helped others to discover their family roots and helped to preserve the data for the Oregon pioneers, which she was a descendent of many of those pioneers.

She was loved by all and will be greatly missed.

She was predeceased by her son, Richard LaLonde, in 1965 and a grandson, Terry Skaflestad, in 1999.

She is survived by four daughters, Charlene Lustig of Henderson, Nev., Cheryl LaLonde and Bernie Warthen of Springfield, and Mary Lou LaLonde of Portland. There are seven surviving grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

There will be a graveside service at the Ames Cemetery in Sweet Home in early May 2017.
