James Lewis Paine, 70 of Hayward, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully after a long battle with Cancer, at American Heritage Care Center in Hammond, Wisconsin, on July 22, 2017.
Jim was born March 3rd 1947 in the Town of Sampson, Chippewa County Wisconsin to Asa and Zena (Snow) Paine.
He attended the Chetek Area Schools and Cameron School District with the Class of 1965. He Joined the Army National Guard while a Junior in high school, later joining the Regular Army serving in the Army Signal Corps as a lineman (as Jim would say he was a Pole Jockey) Jim spent most of his 3 years on active duty in Alaska. After returning home from the service, Jim worked at the Ebner Box Factory in Cameron, Wisconsin as a truck driver. With his love of horses Jim moved on to farming near Exeland, Wisconsin and as a hobby he had many Percheron Draft Horses.
Jim is survived by his long time companion Evelyn (Evie) Strassburg, five brothers, Charles, Sr. (Rhonda) Paine of Eau Claire, Malcolm (Kay) Paine and Richard (Julie) Paine of Cameron, Merle Dean Paine of Bloomer, Joseph Paine of Oconomowoc; six sisters, Pat (Paul) Tomkowiak of Eau Claire, Rexetta (John) Halverson of Menomonie, Dorothy Cook of Almena, Susan (David) Bender of Rice Lake, Rita (Harvey) Lange of Toney, Ala., and Karen (Ed) Johnson of Marshall, Wisconsin, numerous nieces and nephews; and many more friends that he called his extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert Paine (who died in infancy) and Donald Paine; two sisters, Peggy Wirth and Sherry Lindsey. His grandparents; Lyle and Thora (Olson) Paine & Clinton and Viola (Brown) Snow.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, Wisconsin on (date and time to be determined.)
