THOMAS W. BUTRON
VERNON - Mr. Thomas W. Burton, 88, of 20 Van Epps St., was pronounced dead on arrival at Oneida City Hospital after being stricken at home early Thursday evening.
He was born Nov. 11, 18189 in Belvedere, Illinois, son of the late Walker and Stella Redfield Burton. A resident of Vernon since 1913, prior to having lived in Illinois and Kansas, Mr. Burton married the former Helen Heinig in Vernon in 1920. Mrs. Burton died in 1957. Mr. Burton was an active Auctioneer most of his life with the Burton Livestock Exchange of Vernon, retiring 8 years ago. He also enjoyed a life time assn.. with Standard Bred Horses, having been a trainer-driver at Vernon Downs. Mr. Burton was a veteran of WW II having served with the U.S .Army. He was of the Protestant Faith and was a member of the William Russell Post #404 of Vernon. Mr. Burton was a 60-years member of Sconondoa Dodge #814 F&AM and a 50- years member of the Odd Fellows Lodge #11, both at Vernon. He also was a charter member of the Central N.Y. Horsemen Assn. and a member of the U. S. Trotting Assn.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Charlotte) Sparling of Jensen Beach, Fla., and Miss Catherine Burton, at home, 4 sisters, Mrs. Clarence (Mae) Gates of Oneida, Mrs. Homer (Libbie) Creighton of Boonville, Mrs. Earl (Irene) Oatman of Oneida and Mrs, George (Lucille) Halstead, Vernon, grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday from the Malecki Funeral Home, Vernon. Burial will be this spring in Maple Grove Cemetery..
