Shirley Anne Schweitz passed from this life on June 21, 2013 joining her loving husband who preceded her in death in 2011. Shirley was born in Independence, Oregon to Warren C. and Zelma M. Welton on April 11, 1932 and was the second of three children. She grew up in the Salem and Jefferson, Oregon area and graduated from Jefferson high school in 1950. In 1950 Shirley married Alfred McCann who served 26 years in the United States Air Force and through that union had four children. She was a devoted military wife who moved with him throughout his career, stationed in Texas, Washington, Germany, Nevada, Hawaii, and California. While in Hawaii, Shirley was active in the NCO wives club where she served as chairman of the welfare committee, co-chairman of the bazaar committee and later was elected president presiding over all active chair committees. Later in life Shirley returned to Salem, Oregon after her divorce in 1977 and worked for the State of Oregon Building Codes Agency for 12 years, retiring in 1989. During that time she married Walter Schweitz in 1981 and was married to Walt for 30 years until his death in 2011.

Shirley enjoyed crocheting and sewing clothes for the grandchildren which was something that was a special gift from her to them. Shirley was an avid bowler, participating in mixed and women leagues receiving numerous awards and trophies throughout her life. She also loved to go fishing with whoever was willing to go and never missed an opportunity to play pinochle and Bunco with the "Golden Girls".

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Charles and Ronald, husband Walter, and daughter Laurie Bartlett.

A memorial service will be held at Barrick Funeral Home located at 205 Church Street S.E., Salem, Oregon 97301 on Friday, June 28th, 2013 at 11am.
