JOHN KRUSE

Over fifty carriages and autos came from the country December 30, 1912 to attend the funeral in the Ft. Calhoun (Nebraska) cemetery of this much loved, quiet, German farmer, who fell from his horse last Saturday evening not far from his home three miles southwest of town. We know of very few private citizens who were held in higher esteem by their neighbors than this man and his sudden death was a shock to the whole community.

The Lutheran minister at Bennington officiated at the house. The pallbearers were Gus Lage, Wm. Schmidt, Henry Fischer, Carl Wiese and Henry and William Teitjen.*

Mr. Kruse was born at Keil, Germany, February 2, 1861, came to Washington county in 1883 and was married March 25, 1891, to Miss Lena Teitjen.* His parents are both dead. He leaves besides his wife, six children, five at home and one, Mrs. Hans Knag, married; also four brothers, three in this county and one in Douglas. The old son was 18 the day of the funeral.

A number of people were present from Sholes and other parts of the state. W. H. WOODS
