COPELAND, Kenneth Dewitt (Ken), 71 of Tampa, Florida died on February 14, 2016. Mr. Copeland was born on June 23, 1944 in Tampa, the son of William Hampton Copeland and Julia Brown Copeland. Ken attended college at the Georgia Military Academy and later the University of Georgia. He was a veteran of the Army Special Forces and proudly served the nation during four tours in Vietnam. While on active duty, he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Distinguished Service Cross. He was a Tampa native and was employed at Copeland & Sons Realty for over 20 years. In retirement, he was an active member of the American Legion and spent most of his time volunteering at the Tampa Veterans Hospital counseling soldiers suffering from Post-trauma-tic stress disorder (PTSD). Ken enjoyed hunting, fishing, skeet shooting and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, William Hampton Copeland, Jr. He is survived by his children, Kenneth Dewitt (Witt) Copeland, Jr. (Casey) of Tampa, William Hampton Copeland, III (Niki) of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; their mother, Janet Lowry Copeland; and his close friend, Peggy McLain. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 26th at 2:00 PM at Christ the King of Tampa, Florida. Interment will be held at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park and Cemetery at 3:30 PM of Tampa, Florida. A celebration of life will be held following the interment at Merrymakers club from 6-9:00 PM of Tampa, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the TAMCO foundation at 4830 W. Kennedy Blvd., Suite 250, Tampa, Florida 33609.
