James M. “Pops” Griffie, age 70, of Carlisle, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Carlisle Regional Medical Center.
He was born June 22, 1947 in Carlisle to the late Charles L. Griffie and Hilda L. (Lebo) Griffie Keck.
James was a 1965 graduate of Cumberland Valley High School and was known as a prankster. He served in the United States Army Reserves. He loved all types of racing, especially NASCAR. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, family gatherings and cookouts. James was a very active parent who coached his daughter’s softball teams and was very active in his sons RC racing team, JG Motorsports. He was a loyal sprint car fan. He was a very caring and giving husband, father, brother and grandfather. James retired after forty years of driving truck for Super Rite Foods and Carlisle Carrier.
He is survived by: his wife of 46 years, Sharon L. Griffie of Carlisle; two children, Tammi Sue Griffie (companion, Jim Ditzler) and Kevin L. Griffie, all of Carlisle; two grandsons, Austin J. Griffie and Joseph Engelhardt; two siblings, William C. (wife Martha) Griffie of Carlisle and Wanda (husband Don) Griffie-Leiby of Enola; two step-brothers, Tom (wife Romaine) Keck of Harrisburg and Tim Keck of OK; brother-in-law, Morris H. Metzger, Jr. (fiancé Kim Kelly) of Carlisle; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his step-father, Tom Keck, Sr. and step-brother Charles Keck.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 31, 2017 at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA with Rev. Eric L. Funk officiating. Burial will follow at Letort Cemetery. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Monday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Capital Region Division, 1019 Mumma Road, Wormleysburg, PA 17043.
