Onsby Merrial Hurst, 80, of Lashmeet, WV, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Princeton Healthcare Center. Born March 8, 1937 in Dott, he was the son of the late Claron Onsby Hurst (1914-1975) and Helen May Akers-Hurst (1918-2005).
He worked for Acme Supermarket and Grants as Head of the Meat department for many years and later worked for Buddy’s Cleaning and Contracting of Lerona WV. He was a member of Mount Olivet Methodist Church at Lashmeet and a veteran of the U. S. Army.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gloria "Yvonne" Mills-Hurst (B. 1939) whom he married on June 1, 1958 in Lashmeet, Mercer County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Mercer County, WV, 1958, Page 9, Line 32, Application Date: May 27, 1958); two children, Jennifer Hurst-Dunn and husband J.D. Dunn of Bear Creek, NC and Jeffrey Hurst and wife Katrina Hurst of Lashmeet; three grandchildren David Blankenship of East Warwick RI, Davina Blankenship of Bear Creek NC and Courtland Hurst of Princeton; two great grandchildren Cameron Blankenship and Michael Blankenship of East Warwick RI; two step granddaughters Candice Coyle and Kelly Underwood of Princeton WV and Candice’s children Kristy and Jayden and two sisters Loretta Hurst-Courtroulis and Mona Hurst-Robertson both of Glenwood WV.
Honoring his wishes the body has been cremated and there will be no services. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family.
