She is survived by her loving husband of 71 years EJ "Eddie" Hampshire and her children, daughter, Carol H. Bryant, EJ "Joe" Hampshire, Jr., Lorelei Gregory, Larry S. Hampshire, Leslee S. Hampshire; grandsons, Edward "Trey" Hampshire III (Sarah); Adam S. Hampshire (Rebecca), Benjamin C. Hampshire (Angie); great-grandson, Noah S. Hampshire. Her extended family includes many loving nieces, nephews and their families.
One of Clare's most cherished times was always the Matter family reunion. During her great life she enjoyed many wonderful adventures including traveling across the US during WWII to join her husband, travel with family around the globe and the many friends that she made. Clare never lost her love for living beside the water from her birth at home on the Lafayette River, to Ocean Park her family beach house, to Traceyton, WA and to her 47 year residence in Lynnhaven Colony. The love in her life was her family and friends, she never met a stranger and everyone she encountered was changed in some manner because of her special kindness. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. She will be missed by all.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2pm, Monday, July 28, 2014 with a visitation one hour prior at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home. After the service there will be a private entombment in the mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lynnhaven Colony Congregational Church of Christ, 2217 W. Great Neck Rd., Virginia Beach, VA 23451. A memorial service will be held at 2pm, August 10, 2014 at Lynnhaven Colony Congregational Church.
