Mr. Robert L. “Bobby” Bakner, 74, of Spruce Road, Fayetteville, PA passed away Monday, July 31, 2017 in the Chambersburg Hospital.

Born May 9, 1943 in Waynesboro, PA he was the son of the late Norman W. and Margaret B. (Jones) Bakner. He was a lifelong resident of the Mont Alto and South Mountain areas.

Mr. Bakner served in the United States Army National Guard for over 4 years.

He and his wife of over 52 years, M. Catherine (Butler) Bakner, were married July 21, 1965 in Hagerstown, MD.

In his early life, Mr. Bakner was employed as a carpenter alongside his father. He later worked as a utility plant operator at South Mountain Restoration Center for over 27 1/2 years, retiring in 2003.

He was a member of the South Mountain Fish and Game Club, the Adams County Fish and Game Club, and the Mountain Valley Riders Saddle Club. Mr. Bakner enjoyed hunting, fishing, and taking care of his farm.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Norman L. Bakner and Kathy R. Smith and her husband, Jeff, all of Fayetteville; three grandchildren, Joshua Bakner, Logan Bakner, and Isabelle Smith; one brother Ted Bakner of Mont Alto, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, August 2, 2017 in Quincy Cemetery, Quincy, PA with Kim Reed officiating.

There will be no public viewing.
