SALAMANCA - Mr. Richard Ambuske, 86, of Salamanca, died Tuesday July 18, 2017 at Olean General Hospital surrounded by his family.
Born Sept. 11, 1930, in Salamanca, he was the son of the late Floyd and Viola Rybicka Ambuske. He was married on June 25, 1955, in St. John's Church in Olean, to the former Theresa Marcus, who predeceased him on Sept. 29, 2010.
Mr. Ambuske was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as a Corporal in Europe with the 1795 Armored Cavalry Reconnaissance. He was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal of Germany.
He had been employed as a carpenter with the Empire State Carpenters Union in Olean.
He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish and the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 66. He enjoyed spending time with his family, polka music, and hunting and fishing with his grandsons.
Surviving are two daughters, Susan Ambuske of Salamanca, and Kathleen (Frank) Hanick of Erie, Pa.; three grandchildren, Sgt. Mark (Heather) Hanick of Ft. Drum, Nicholas Hanick and Kaitlyn Hanick of Erie, Pa.; two great-grandchildren, Cayden and Easton Hanick, both of Ft. Drum; and a sister, Marjorie (Dan) Riggs of Franklinville.
He was predeceased by an infant great-granddaughter, Bailey Grace Hanick, and an infant sister.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, NY. Full military honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion Hughes Skiba Post 535 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post 5296.
