LOSES LIFE DURING ARMY MANEUVERS

Pvt. Chas. A. Holland, Of Marion Fatally Injured In Virginia

FUNERAL RITES TO BE HELD THIS AFTERNOON

Private Charles Augden a recent Somerset county selectee, was killed on Wednesday of this week in a truck accident while serving with the "Blue" forces during army maneuvers at Bowling Green, Va., according to announcement from Twentyninth Division headquarters at the A. P. Hill Military Reservation. Details of the accident which resulted in the death of Private Holland, son of Charles A. and Martha Wilkins Holland, of Marion, were meager at press time. Notification of the tragedy was given to the parents by Major General Milton A. Reckord, commander of the Twenty-ninth Division, by telegram Wednesday.

The accident occurred, it is understood, while Private Holland was riding in a truck during maneuvers. In some way, it is said, the lad fell from the truck, which was in motion, and must have rolled under the wheels. It is reported that death was caused by the wheels of the truck. No one else was hurt in the accident. Private Holland had been a member of the armed forces for a little more than five months, having been one of thirty-five Somerset county selectees, the largest group thus far to be inducted, to leave Princess Anne on April 7th, of this year. At the time of his death he was attached to the Provisional Anti-Tank Battalion of the 110th Field Artillery and had served creditably during the time he had been in the army.

Private Holland, who was thirty years age, possessed an engaging personality and many sterling traits of character which served to endear him to an ever widening circle of friends who were shocked to learn of his sudden death.

Funeral services will he held this afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from his late home at Marion, with the Rev. Hermann Bischoff, pastor of the Rehoboth Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Besides his parents, he is survived by one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Ogburn, of Oakland, Md.
