She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Wilda Buth and sister, Carole Brox.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Wayne Scharstein of Cottondale, Ala.; son, John Robert Scharstein of Sidney, N.Y.; and sisters, Kathleen Bennett (Greg) of Cary, N.C., Diane Dailey (Alan) of Ogdensburg, N.Y. and Jillayne Yost (Ronald) of Lockport, N.Y.
Ralda passed away at DCH Regional Medical Center on August 3, 2017. Ralda was born in Lockport, New York on December 15, 1954, the fourth daughter of Ralph and Wilda Buth. She graduated from Lockport Senior High School, Niagara County Community College and the University of Buffalo.
Ralda was a gentle soul who loved her husband and son more than life itself. She had an extraordinary talent and compassion for helping all classes of animals: stray dogs and cats as well as all of God's creatures. Consistent and patient kindness to all people were Ralda's signature traits. She was an avid reader and she loved to tend to her many plants and flowers.
Ralda worked continuously since the age of 16 in a variety of positions and organizations including Agway Gardens, 7-Up Bottling Company, the Crimson White and Wordway Press.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Humane Society of West Alabama or the Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter.
