Norm was born on April 2, 1928, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Herbert and Dorothy (Arensberg) Staub. He graduated from Immaculate Conception before going to work for his father who owned and operated H.K. Staub and Sons Construction.

Norm met Betty Thompson at The Temple Roller Skating Rink in Cedar Rapids and they were married on July 12, 1947, at St. Matthew’s Church, Cedar Rapids.

Norm took over the business and continued running it for 57 years before retiring in 2000. While still working at the construction company, he also built, owned and managed Lancer Lanes, Castle Lanes and May City Bowl.

The most important thing in Norm’s life was his family. He was very proud of the fact that his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren followed him with a love of bowling. Watching his grandchildren’s activities brought him the greatest joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Richie; great-granddaughter, Alexis; brothers, Herb, George, and Bill; and sister, Doris.
